With profound sorrow and grief, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy mourns the victims of the devastating landslides that destroyed the village of Tarsin in Jebel Marra, claiming the lives of nearly one thousand men, women, and children, leaving behind only a single survivor.
This tragedy, which wiped an entire village off the map, stands as one of the darkest disasters in Sudan’s modern history. Its wounds are not confined to Tarsin alone but extend to all of Sudan-and to humanity at large.
As we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to our people in Darfur and across Sudan, we urgently appeal to the international and regional community, as well as humanitarian and relief organizations, to intervene immediately: to recover the bodies buried beneath the rubble, to provide critical assistance, and to support the devastated local community in this time of unbearable hardship.
May mercy and peace be upon the victims, and patience and solace upon their families.
