Two Years of Devastation in Sudan: Civil Society Urges Immediate Action

Amid two years of bloody conflict, civilians in Sudan continue to bear an unbearable burden of indiscriminate violence, mass killings, and starvation, with their lives and rights under constant threat. Civil society, represented by the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and its partners, calls on the international community and the African Union to intervene urgently to halt hostilities, protect civilians, ensure accountability, and pave the way for sustainable peace that guarantees the lives and dignity of the Sudanese people.

Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, together with 28 partner civil society organizations, expresses deep alarm at the ongoing armed conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has plunged Sudan into two years of unparalleled human suffering. Civilians continue to bear the brunt of indiscriminate violence, mass killings, targeted attacks on displaced populations, starvation, and the destruction of livelihoods, leaving millions at the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.

We call on both SAF and RSF to immediately cease hostilities, respect international humanitarian law, and allow unhindered humanitarian aid to reach those in desperate need. The African Union and the international community must urgently intervene, invoking their legal and moral responsibilities to protect civilians, ensure accountability for atrocities, and facilitate a negotiated settlement that prioritizes the lives and rights of the Sudanese people.

This joint statement reflects the unwavering commitment of civil society to end the bloodshed and to stand in solidarity with Sudanese women, children, and families who have endured unimaginable hardship. Time is of the essence; the world must act decisively to prevent further loss of life and pave the way for lasting peace and justice.
