On this African Union Day, we honor the vision of a united, resilient, and prosperous Africa a dream rooted in the historic Sirte Declaration of 1999 and sustained by the enduring spirit of Pan-Africanism. Today is a moment to celebrate our achievements in peacebuilding, economic integration, youth empowerment, and innovation, while also confronting the persistent crises that test the very fabric of our continent.
Africa continues to face profound challenges .. conflicts that devastate communities, climate disasters that threaten livelihoods, and systemic poverty that denies millions the dignity of a decent life. Sudan, in particular, stands as a bleeding wound in the heart of Africa. Since April 2023, senseless war has destroyed cities, displaced families, and inflicted unimaginable suffering. The international community and the African Union must rise to their moral and historical responsibilities: to halt the bloodshed, protect civilians, and hold perpetrators of crimes against humanity accountable.
The African Union, as a beacon of continental solidarity, must translate vision into tangible action. We call on the Union to strengthen monitoring and evaluation, advance preventive diplomacy, support national capacities, engage civil society and youth, and modernize crisis response mechanisms. Decisions must no longer remain words on paper they must shape lives and restore hope.
As a civil society organization committed to peace, democracy, and human rights, the Nubian Centre for Peace and Democracy reaffirms its dedication to working alongside governments, communities, youth, and partners to build an Africa where every citizen can live with dignity, security, and opportunity. The challenges are immense, but our collective will is stronger.
Let this African Union Day mark a turning point a renewed commitment to peace, justice, and prosperity across our continent.
Long live Africa free, united, and thriving.
