The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy Participates in a Virtual Symposium on Sudan Organized by USAID and the Department of State

“By joining the USAID and U.S. Department of State symposium, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying the voices of Sudan’s war-affected communities on global platforms. In the face of immense suffering, NCPD engages in dialogue to ensure that humanitarian needs, protection concerns, and pathways to peace remain at the heart of international efforts to address Sudan’s crisis.”

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy participated in a high-level virtual symposium organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State, in partnership with the Sudanese American Public Affairs Association and the Sudanese American Medical Association.

The symposium featured prominent representatives from the U.S. administration, including Ms. Isobel Coleman, Deputy Administrator of USAID, and Mr. Tom Perriello, U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, along with several members of the Sudanese community in the United States and representatives of Sudanese and American civil society organizations.

During the symposium, pressing humanitarian issues in Sudan were discussed, including ways to enhance humanitarian assistance and expand access to war-affected communities. Views were also exchanged on the ongoing peace talks and the role of Sudanese civil society in supporting peaceful resolutions and building trust between the parties.

This attendance comes as part of the Center’s commitment to engaging in international and regional discussions related to Sudan and bringing the issues of conflict-affected communities to global platforms, thus contributing to the development of more comprehensive and sustainable solutions.
