Statement: Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and its Partners Welcome Judgment Date in Ali Kushayb Case and Demand Comprehensive Justice for Sudan.
“The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and its partners welcome the ICC’s announcement of October 6 as the judgment date in the Ali Kushayb case. This milestone affirms that atrocity crimes will not go unpunished, offering hope to victims in Darfur. Justice remains incomplete until all perpetrators are held accountable and ongoing violations in Sudan end. Upholding truth, accountability, and reparation is essential for lasting peace, democracy, and human dignity in Sudan.”

In a moment of profound significance, one that resonates with the conscience of humanity at large, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and its partners warmly welcome the announcement that October 6th has been set as the date for the pronouncement of judgment in the case of The Prosecutor v. Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, widely known as “Ali Kushayb,” before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Far from being a simple legal formality, this moment stands as a beacon of hope in the long and arduous struggle for justice in Darfur. It demonstrates that no atrocity will go unpunished, and that the long-silenced cries of victims are now finding their place within the chambers of international justice.
The decision to set a judgment date for Ali Kushayb, accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, represents a victory for justice and for the millions who have endured displacement, loss, and suffering. It is also a crucial test of the ICC’s resolve to deliver justice in the Darfur case, which has remained unresolved for nearly two decades. Yet justice will remain incomplete until all those indicted-most notably former President Omar al-Bashir, Ahmed Haroun, and Abdelrahim Mohamed Hussein-are handed over to the Court, and until the ongoing war crimes since April 2023 are brought to an end.
This trial sends a clear and uncompromising message: those who commit atrocities will not escape accountability, and the principles of human dignity, the right to life, safety, and peaceful coexistence are universal and non-negotiable.
The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and its partners urges the international community and all relevant actors to intensify efforts to ensure that all individuals accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity are surrendered to justice. Equally urgent is the need to end the ongoing violations in Sudan and to uphold the rights of victims to truth, justice, compensation, and reparation.
Sustainable peace and genuine democracy in Sudan can only be achieved by embedding the pillars of accountability and comprehensive justice, and by building a future anchored in peace, coexistence, and the inherent dignity of every human being.
