The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission has documented alarming levels of sexual violence and grave human rights violations amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The report attributes most of these violations to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), including gang rape, sexual slavery, and abductions, particularly in Khartoum, Darfur, and Al-Jazira states.
The Mission noted that these crimes may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, as civilians have been deliberately targeted on the basis of gender and ethnic identity. Survivors face immense barriers in accessing medical care, legal assistance, and psychosocial support due to the destruction or occupation of many facilities.
The report calls for urgent protection of civilians, the establishment of mechanisms for victim support and reparations, and full accountability for perpetrators.
“The reality is that there is no safe place left in Sudan today,” the Mission warned, stressing the urgent need for immediate international action to end impunity and safeguard affected communities.
