Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy Launches Campaign for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

“Violence against women is not only a violation of rights-it is an assault on human dignity itself. Every woman and girl deserves to live free from fear, abuse, and discrimination. By raising awareness, providing support, and empowering survivors, we can transform communities, break cycles of violence, and build a future where equality, justice, and safety are a reality for all.”

November 25, 2024 – Kampala, Uganda.

The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy (NCPD) proudly announces the launch of its campaign in support of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual global initiative running from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). This campaign reflects NCPD’s ongoing commitment to protecting human rights, empowering women, and promoting justice and equality.

Violence against women and girls is a persistent and complex issue that violates human dignity, limits opportunities, and undermines societal progress. In Sudan, especially amid the destructive war, hundreds of women and girls have been subjected to systematic and widespread violence, including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse. This alarming reality requires urgent action.

The campaign focuses on:

  • Raising Awareness – Educating communities about the causes, types, and consequences of violence, challenging harmful stereotypes, and promoting positive narratives about women and girls.
  • Legal Protection – Advocating for the revision or repeal of laws that undermine women’s rights, and enacting legislation to safeguard women and hold perpetrators accountable.
  • Support for Survivors – Providing accessible psychological and legal services, shelters, and counseling to ensure survivors receive the care they need to rebuild their lives.
  • Education and Youth Engagement – Instilling the values of equality, justice, and human rights in the next generation to prevent violence and cultivate a culture of respect.
  • Economic and Political Empowerment – Supporting women’s economic independence, funding women-led initiatives, and enhancing representation in decision-making spaces.
  • Community Participation – Engaging men, families, and communities to prevent violence, promote equality, and create safe and inclusive environments.

“Ending violence against women is essential for building safe, just, and inclusive societies. Through awareness, education, psychological support, and collective action, we can empower survivors, transform communities, and ensure a future where every woman and girl lives free from violence, fear, and discrimination.”

Nubian Center calls on governments, civil society organizations, and communities across Sudan, Uganda, and the wider region to join hands in this campaign and take decisive steps to end violence against women and girls.
