Extrajudicial Killings in Sudan Spark Widespread International Condemnation

“We strongly condemn the extrajudicial killings in Sudan targeting innocent civilians and warn against escalating ethnic violence that threatens national peace. Protecting life and human dignity is a collective responsibility and an urgent humanitarian duty that cannot be postponed.”

Geneva – January 2025

Civil society and international organizations have strongly condemned the extrajudicial killings targeting innocent civilians in Sudan, including children and the elderly, driven by ethnic motives. These horrific crimes threaten the safety of entire communities and heighten the risk of the ongoing conflict since April 2023 escalating into a full-scale civil war.

The organizations emphasized the urgent need for international intervention to protect civilians, hold perpetrators accountable, and compensate victims, stressing that safeguarding life and human dignity is a collective responsibility and an urgent humanitarian duty.

Sudanese civil society and UN actors are calling on all parties to immediately cease ethnically motivated attacks, respect international humanitarian law, ensure full protection of civilians, and create a fair environment for national reconciliation and sustainable peace.
