Conclusion of the “Testify for Justice in Sudan” Campaign: Voices of Witnesses Pave the Way for Truth and Accountability
“The Sudanese people have once again demonstrated their courage in confronting fear and silence. Every testimony has been a step toward justice and a message of hope for the victims of war and suffering. Bearing witness is not merely recounting the past-it is an act of resistance against injustice, a declaration that truth does not die. Justice begins with a sincere voice that dares to speak what it has seen, and with the deep conviction that there can be no peace without fairness, and no future without accountability.”

The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, in partnership with the Leadership Office of the Sudanese Refugee Community in Uganda, concluded the “Testify for Justice in Sudan” campaign, which ran from June 24 to 30, 2025, under the theme “Justice Begins with You.”
Throughout a week of intensive humanitarian engagement, the campaign successfully encouraged hundreds of citizens to submit their testimonies and reports to the United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan (FFM Sudan). It received broad participation from Sudanese communities inside and outside the country, particularly refugees in Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Chad. Many participants expressed that they had previously been unaware of any international mechanism to receive testimonies and reports, noting that the campaign served as their first gateway to engage with international justice mechanisms, revealing a major gap in access to information for victims and witnesses.
The campaign aimed to encourage victims, survivors, witnesses, and civil society and human rights organizations to submit reports on violations and war crimes committed in Sudan, with the goal of ending the culture of impunity and ensuring accountability for perpetrators from all parties to the conflict.
This initiative came at a time when evidence of grave human rights violations against civilians continues to mount. It sought to break the silence surrounding Sudan’s tragedy and shed renewed light on the stories and suffering of victims who have endured brutal forms of violence-including killings, sexual violence, ethnically motivated attacks, indiscriminate bombings, child recruitment, arbitrary detention, ill-treatment, looting, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and attacks on journalists and humanitarian workers.
The campaign further called on all Sudanese people, both inside and outside the country-especially refugees and those who have witnessed or experienced these crimes-to submit their testimonies to the UN Fact-Finding Mission before June 30, 2025, contributing to truth-telling and justice for victims.
Mohammed Abdullah, CEO of the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, described the campaign as “a human outcry against impunity,” stating “The Sudanese people have once again shown their bravery in facing fear and silence. Every testimony submitted was a step toward justice and a clear message that the truth cannot be buried.”
He further called for continued efforts to document violations and support the work of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan.
From his side, Engineer Hussein Teiman, Head of the Leadership Office of the Sudanese Refugee Community in Uganda, said that the campaign “restored hope to victims that justice is possible,” praising participants who shared their testimonies despite immense challenges.
“Every voice of a victim is a step toward truth and justice. What Sudanese witnesses documented during this campaign is a promise that the tragedy will not be erased, and that justice will remain a timeless human demand.”
The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and the Leadership Office of the Sudanese Refugee Community in Uganda reaffirmed that this campaign is not the end, but the beginning of a long journey toward truth and justice, emphasizing that documenting violations is not a political act, but a moral and humanitarian duty aimed at protecting human dignity and building a just and sustainable peace in Sudan.
