Closing of Workshop on Human Rights in Sudan: Voices of Youth and Women Call for Justice
“The workshop on human rights in Sudan concluded by emphasizing the importance of empowering youth, women, and human rights defenders to develop effective strategies, strengthen accountability, protect civilians, and ensure unified and consistent representation in international Human Rights Council meetings.”
February 20, 2025 – Kampala, Uganda.

The workshop on “The Human Rights Situation in Sudan” concluded on February 19, 2025, in Kampala, organized by the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy in collaboration with its partners, including the African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies and several civil society organizations and human rights activists. The two-day workshop aimed to prepare participants for effective engagement in the 58th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council and to strengthen coordination with regional and international mechanisms.

The workshop addressed critical challenges such as racial-based violations, discriminatory laws, gender-based violence, child recruitment, and the persecution of religious and ethnic minorities. Participants discussed ways to empower Sudanese human rights defenders, especially youth and women, to develop strong strategies, craft effective messages, and ensure unified representation in international meetings. The workshop also emphasized the importance of strengthening accountability mechanisms, preventing impunity, enhancing international cooperation to support investigations, protecting civilians, and promoting human rights in Sudan.
As the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council begins next week in Geneva, participants pledged to carry forward a unified Sudanese message: that accountability, justice, and human dignity must be at the center of the international response to Sudan’s crisis.
