On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the Sudan Doctors Organization, in collaboration with the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy and the International Human Resuscitation Organization, conducted a comprehensive first aid workshop at the AFORD Organization headquarters in Kampala. The workshop covered Basic Life Support, Resuscitation Guidelines under Special Circumstances, and Initial Trauma Management, aiming to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond to medical emergencies.

The training was led by Dr. Mahmoud Tageldin Mustafa, Emergency Consultant and ERC Courses Director, and Dr. Ayman Nasr, Associate Professor of Surgery and Trauma and CEO of the International Human Resuscitation Organization. Both trainers shared extensive expertise in emergency medicine, resuscitation, and trauma care, combining theoretical explanations with practical demonstrations.

The workshop attracted Sudanese youth, mostly medical students, who actively engaged in the sessions. Participants took part in hands-on exercises, practicing CPR, trauma assessment, and primary medical interventions. The interactive approach allowed attendees to simulate real-life emergency scenarios, understand decision-making processes during critical moments, and gain confidence in applying first aid techniques.

Key takeaways for participants included:

  • Mastery of Basic Life Support procedures for adults, children, and infants.

  • Understanding resuscitation protocols in special circumstances, including fainting, accidents, and urgent trauma cases.

  • Skills to assess and manage initial trauma, including injury stabilization and prioritization of care.

  • Practical exposure to life-saving techniques with immediate impact on community health and emergency response.

Participants expressed that the workshop significantly enhanced their ability to respond to emergencies, boosted their confidence, and inspired them to share this knowledge within their communities to promote awareness and preparedness.

One participant remarked: “The workshop was not just about learning techniques; it was about building confidence to act in real-life situations. We now feel ready to help and save lives, especially in critical moments when every second counts.”

The organizers emphasized that initiatives like this strengthen the capacity of Sudanese youth to become first responders, empower communities, and foster a culture of health awareness and emergency preparedness, ultimately saving lives and reinforcing resilience across communities.
