The Nubian Centre for Peace and Democracy expresses profound sorrow over the humanitarian tragedy that claimed the lives of dozens of Sudanese refugees last week, after a boat carrying 75 people caught fire off the coast of Libya.
The Centre emphasizes that these victims were not merely “migrants” but refugees fleeing the devastating war in Sudan in search of safety, only to face death in the open sea. The Centre holds the parties to the conflict in Sudan fully responsible for this tragedy and calls on the international community to take immediate action to halt the war, pursue comprehensive peace, conduct an independent international investigation, and hold those responsible accountable.
The Centre presents its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the survivors, reaffirming its solidarity with the Sudanese people in their ordeal and stressing that this tragedy must not go unaddressed.
