International Human Rights Day in light of the current Sudanese crisis.
“On this International Human Rights Day, we reaffirm that every Sudanese citizen deserves dignity, security, and justice amid the ongoing war. The killing, displacement, and systematic violations in Sudan demand urgent international action. All parties must cease hostilities, protect civilians, and enable humanitarian access, while the international community ensures accountability. Only through peace, justice, and inclusive political reforms can Sudanese people reclaim their rights and build a future of stability and equality.”

Every year, December 10 marks International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated by the United Nations to commemorate the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This year, the day comes at a time of great challenges to human rights in the world, as many regions and countries around the world are witnessing conflicts that threaten the basic human rights that all individuals should enjoy, regardless of their gender, race, religion or any other differences.
Despite the progress that has been made in the field of human rights, there are many challenges facing the world today, such as (wars and conflicts, poverty and marginalization, extremism and violence, and climate change), and this day aims to remind the world of the importance of human rights and the values on which they are based, such as dignity, equality and justice, and seeks to spread awareness of human rights and promote their understanding among all members of society, and urges them to work to protect and promote human rights everywhere and stand against the violations that affect them.
The issue of human rights is considered a humanitarian issue of the first degree, and requires concerted efforts to achieve justice, equality and dignity for every member of society. Basic human rights include a wide range of rights, including (the right to life, freedom, the right to equality and justice, the right to education and work, the right to live in peace and security, the right to express opinion, assembly and peaceful demonstration, and the right to equal treatment before the law, without discrimination.
In Sudan, we find ourselves facing a bitter reality, and the issue of human rights is a thorny and complex issue that has witnessed major transformations over the past decades, and the country faces many challenges in this field, starting from the violations of the previous regime and ending with the current war crisis in the country, which witnessed gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
The most prominent challenges facing human rights in Sudan are wars and conflicts, poverty and marginalization, discrimination based on race, color, religion, ethnicity and gender, violations of freedoms, violence against women, violence against protesters, sexual violations, and others.
We at the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy salute this day, which enshrines the principle of equality and dignity for everyone, and we feel a deep sense of responsibility towards the Sudanese people who are suffering from the scourge of war, displacement and displacement.
The killing, displacement, arbitrary arrests and destruction of public and private property in Sudan is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, and requires the international community to take urgent and immediate action to stop this tragedy.
We call on all conflicting parties in Sudan to immediately stop the war and come to the negotiating table in order to achieve a just, lasting and sustainable peace that guarantees the return of the democratic process and the protection of human rights and public freedoms in Sudan.
We also call on the United Nations and the international community to assume their full responsibilities towards the Sudanese people, and to exert maximum pressure on the conflicting parties to stop the war, provide protection for civilians, and provide the necessary humanitarian support to the Sudanese people.
We affirm our unlimited support for the International Commission of Inquiry, which must investigate all violations committed during this war, hold the perpetrators accountable, and ensure that they do not go unpunished.
The Sudanese people aspire to a better future, in which everyone enjoys their full rights and lives in peace and prosperity. To achieve this goal, the international community and Sudanese civil and political leaders must work to achieve the following actions:
– Stop the war and protect civilians.
– Hold perpetrators of serious human rights violations accountable.
– Undertake comprehensive political reforms, including building a state of institutions and law.
– Promote human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration.
We are confident that together, with solidarity and cooperation, we will be able to overcome this crisis the country is going through and build a Sudan where peace, stability and justice prevail.
In conclusion: International Human Rights Day is a reminder that we are all responsible for protecting and promoting human rights, and that we must work together to build a more just and equal world.
