Kampala – July 25, 2024

In a step that underscores the vital role of Sudanese civil society in advancing peace, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, together with 45 other Sudanese civil society organizations, signed the “Kampala Declaration: Condemning the War and Calling for Dialogue in Sudan.”

The declaration calls for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the guaranteed inclusion of civil society in all stages of the peace process.

This statement comes amid the ongoing war since April 2023, which has caused immense suffering-including the displacement of millions, loss of countless lives, and the destruction of critical infrastructure-while pushing the country to the brink of catastrophic famine.

Civil society emphasizes the urgent need to unify all peace initiatives under one platform to ensure effective impact and to achieve a sustainable and secure future for Sudan and its people.
