Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy (NCPD) welcomes the African Union’s landmark adoption of the Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, calling it a bold and historic step toward justice and equality.

The Center emphasized that the Convention is more than symbolic – it is a turning point that affirms women’s and girls’ rights and dignity as fundamental and non-negotiable. For Sudanese women, who have long endured conflict, displacement, and sexual violence, this adoption carries profound meaning and urgent relevance.

The NCPD urged all AU Member States to swiftly ratify and implement the Convention, warning that without concrete action and accountability, its promises risk remaining empty.

“This Convention must not gather dust. It must become a living instrument of justice and protection,” the Center stated.

The Nubian Center affirmed its readiness to support implementation efforts and called on civil society across Africa to use the Convention as a platform for advocacy and reform.
