On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy organized the Youth for Peace forum online on the evening of 21 September 2025, bringing together 36 young women and men from diverse cities and regions across Sudan, including Khartoum, Kassala, Gadaref, Port Sudan, Blue Nile, Al-Duwaym, Al-Qatina, Kosti, Al-Obeid, Kadugli, Al-Foula, Al-Jeneina, Nyala, and Al-Deain.
The forum provided a unique space that united young voices committed to rejecting war and division while holding on to the hope of building a future marked by justice and equality. Participants emphasized that peace is not a distant dream; it is an ethical duty and a humanitarian necessity that requires courageous stances and collective action.
This day comes as the world celebrates peace, love, and prosperity, while the Sudanese people continue to endure the devastations of a destructive and senseless war ongoing since 15 April 2023. The conflict has resulted in grave violations and produced one of the most severe humanitarian crises globally. Participants stressed that the need for solidarity and cooperation is now more urgent than ever, as the path to peaceful societies lies in confronting all forms of discrimination and racism fueled by the war, especially against the most vulnerable and marginalized populations.

In its opening statement, the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy emphasized that hope is the foundation of peace, and that building safe and sustainable communities begins with recognizing the dignity of every person and protecting children, who deserve security, education, and fair opportunities, as they are the most vulnerable and in need of care.
The forum coincided with the United Nations’ theme for the International Day of Peace this year, “Act Now for Peace”. In this context, participants reaffirmed that just and lasting peace cannot exist without justice, accountability, and recognition of the rights of all, including the Sudanese people’s right to freedom, peace, justice, and democratic civilian governance.
Participants also issued an urgent appeal to the international community, calling for serious attention to the Sudanese crisis. Millions of Sudanese face hunger, poverty, and disease that claim thousands of lives from Khartoum to Port Sudan and from Darfur to the Blue Nile. They called for immediate humanitarian intervention to provide food and medicine, and for the international community to exert maximum pressure on all parties to end the war immediately and engage in negotiations for comprehensive peace, security, and sustainable stability.
The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy reaffirmed its commitment to working with Sudanese youth both inside the country and in the diaspora, in partnership with the international community, to build a genuine culture of peace that serves as the cornerstone for achieving comprehensive peace, democratic civilian transition, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.
