Our Rights Are Protected: A Humanitarian Campaign for Civilians in Sudan
“Amid the war tearing Sudan apart and the deepening suffering of civilians, the “Our Rights Are Protected” campaign emerges as a humanitarian call uniting voices for life, dignity, and safety. It is a call for solidarity and collective action to protect the innocent, empower women and youth, and ensure that victims’ suffering is never forgotten. Protecting civilians is not only a legal obligation but a true test of our shared humanity.”

In the midst of the humanitarian crisis gripping Sudan since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023, civilians remain the most vulnerable, paying the highest price in terms of lives, dignity, and security.
In response, the “Our Rights Are Protected” campaign was launched on January 1, 2025, running until January 15, 2025. It represents a collective humanitarian call to action, aiming to protect civilians, amplify their voices, and ensure that their suffering is not ignored by the global conscience.

The campaign is spearheaded by six Sudanese and African civil society organizations united around a clear message: protecting civilians is a humanitarian duty and a collective responsibility. Its objectives include:
- Raising public awareness about the severity of violations and the importance of civilian protection.
- Empowering women and youth as key agents of peacebuilding.
- Engaging communities in supporting and standing in solidarity with affected populations.
- Communicating with relevant stakeholders to bring the voices of victims to international attention and hold violators accountable.

The campaign features diverse activities: producing media materials in Arabic and English, organizing virtual forums with experts, issuing statements condemning violations, and liaising with regional and international civil society organizations.

A central focus of the campaign is highlighting the plight of the most vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities, whose suffering is exacerbated by war, displacement, and limited access to essential services.

Despite Sudan’s ratification of numerous international agreements on civilian protection and human rights, there remains a significant gap between legal commitments and their implementation on the ground. This campaign is therefore an urgent appeal to all conflict parties and the international community to fulfill their obligations and prioritize the protection of civilians.

“Our Rights Are Protected” is not just a campaign-it is a call to collective action, a call for all of us to be the voice of victims and an instrument for safeguarding human rights. Protecting civilians today is not only a legal obligation but a true test of our humanity.
