Sudanese Civil Society Organizations Call for Urgent Action at UN Human Rights Council

As the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council began, a coalition of Sudanese civil society organizations, including the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy (NCPD), issued a joint call for immediate international action to protect civilians and ensure accountability amid ongoing atrocities in Sudan.

The statement highlights the devastating impact of the conflict: thousands of civilians killed, millions displaced, and widespread sexual violence, arbitrary arrests, and ethnic targeting, particularly affecting women and children. The organizations urge the international community to ensure humanitarian access, end starvation as a weapon of war, and strengthen accountability mechanisms, including support for the International Criminal Court and the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan.

“The Sudanese people urgently need decisive action. Mere condemnations are no longer enough,” the statement reads, reaffirming the commitment of Sudanese civil society to justice, protection of human rights, and a peaceful, inclusive Sudan.
