UN Report Confirms Widespread Sexual Violence in Sudan
A UN Fact-Finding Mission has documented alarming levels of sexual violence and human rights violations in Sudan’s ongoing conflict. The report highlights that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible for most cases, including gang rapes, sexual slavery, and abductions, particularly in Khartoum, Darfur, and Gezira States.
The Mission warns that these crimes likely amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, targeting civilians based on gender and ethnicity. Victims face severe challenges accessing medical, legal, and psychosocial support, as many facilities have been destroyed or occupied.
The report calls for urgent protection for civilians, the establishment of support and reparations mechanisms for victims, and full accountability for perpetrators.
“There is no safe place in Sudan now,” the Mission emphasized, highlighting the immediate need for international action to stop impunity and protect vulnerable communities.
